Visit by the Mayor of Ettlingen
First visit by the current Mayor of Ettlingen:
13th - 16th November 2009
The weekend saw Clevedon Town Council and Clevedon Twinning Association, led by Chairman of the Council John Middleton and CTA Chairman Janet Wildgoose, extend a warm welcome to the Mayor of Ettlingen, our German Twin Town.
It was the first visit by Frau Gabriella Bussmaker and she expressed her delight and appreciation at the varied events which were scheduled for her visit. She was accompanied by Frau Karin Heyder-Gysser and Herr Hellmut Hartman, both of whom are familiar faces to many in Clevedon from their long association with the Twinning and the former Ettlingen Friendship Society.
Despite the inclement weather, the especially requested visit to the Wells Carnival went ahead, as well as a walking tour around Clevedon, visiting our usual attractions, culminating in a tour of the Curzon Cinema which they found of enormous interest.
It should be remembered that in 2010 Clevedon will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of twinning with Ettlingen, and also the 20th Anniversary of twinning with Epernay. Therefore there was time set aside for discussion between the visitors, the Town Council and the CTA as to how the 30th Anniversary should be marked and some interesting ideas were suggested to which full publicity will be given in due course.
I would like to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to Clevedon Town Council for their part in the weekend's proceedings and look forward to close co-operation with them for the 30th Anniversary.
Janet Wildgoose.
